General FAQ

What is mySkillit?

mySkillit is an in person edutainment (entertainment + learning) unique and proprietary discovery booking system with end to end commerce capabilities (search, book, payment), where you can book uniquely designed and curated experiences in fun-immersive and engaging environments. Our platform allows people with expertise (“Makers”) to share their talent, skill and enthusiasm with others wanting to learn (“Learners”).

Learners can choose from a wide range of in-person educational experiences ("Skillits") available, from learning woodworking, to learning how to cook from a local grandma – and many more. We help you carve another notch on your know-how belt.

No pre-recorded videos or manuals. Just local Makers sharing their talent and enthusiasm with you. Live and in-person, the best way to learn. Skillits are available for a variety of skill levels, are interactive experiences, and are delivered to families that teach and entertain at the same time. They come in a variety of lengths, from a couple of hours to all-day in the form of live interactive in-person experiences. The experiences are entirely custom to Skillit, meaning you cannot access the experiences outside of the company..

How do Skillits work?

Skillit’s are live, in-person and interactive educational experiences. Each Skillit is unique in time, price and style of delivery. All of the details will be listed on each of the Skillit experience pages.

Makers are carefully sourced and vetted by Skillit. Every Maker outlines their expertise and credentials (with supporting documentation) on their profile. Every Skillit is created and described with the Maker and presented across various categories. Learners can sign up for any Skillit offered, and pay on the platform.

Once the Skillit has taken place, payment is released to the Maker, and the Learner is asked to review the Skillit. Please note that any Skillit reservations made outside of the MySkillit platform violate our Terms and Conditions of Service, and may result in deactivation of the mySkillit accounts of the Maker and Learner involved.

How do you ensure that Skillits are of high quality?

We work hard to vet our Makers and Skillits by having stringent criteria and rules, and by conducting due diligence and background checks. All Makers must accept and comply with our Terms and Conditions of Service. We place particular emphasis on ensuring:

  • A high level of knowledge and expertise appropriate to the Skillit;
  • Engagement and passion for their topic and for teaching; and
  • Respect for Learners, and creation of a safe learning environment.

In addition, we ask our Adult Learners and Families to leave reviews on our Makers and their Skillit experience. If Skillits or Makers do not meet the quality standards, they may be removed from Skillit.

How does mySkillit verify the identity and credentials of its Makers?

mySkillit completes background checks. More specifically, we require Makers to upload official identity documentation, list their qualifications, including institutions of study and work, and provide us with character references.

How do the reviews work?

We ask that all Adult Learners and Families who have taken a Skillit leave a review of the Maker and Skillit. After the session, Learners receive an email with a survey, asking for their review of the experience, and are asked to complete it within 30 days after the Skillit. This benefits the Maker, who is wanting to continuously improve through feedback, as well as future Learners who are considering the Skillit. It also provides Skillit with an important means of quality control. Learners can also leave private feedback for the Maker.

What happens if there is a conflict between a Maker and Learner?

The first step in resolving an issue between the parties is for them to discuss the matter in an open and constructive way. If the Maker and Learner cannot come to a mutually agreeable resolution of the issue, we ask that they contact Skillit for further advice and direction.

Does Skillit have an insurance policy?

Yes, mySkillit is fully insured for everyone’s protection. Makers are responsible for purchasing their own insurance, in addition to the mySkillit coverage.

How does Skillit contribute to the community, and what is SkillitForward?
